Road safety ad­vo­cacy

Team Con­sumer Voice at­tended a two-day con­fer­ence or­gan­ised by Global Road Safety Part­ner­ship (GRSP)-IFRC in New Delhi, along with or­gan­i­sa­tions work­ing on road safety ad­vo­cacy. Par­tic­i­pants ap­pre­ci­ated the ef­forts made by the govern­ment to in­tro­duce the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles (Amend­ment) bill dur­ing the mon­soon ses­sion of Par­lia­ment and jointly urged the Par­lia­men­tary Stand­ing Com­mit­tee (PSC) for the smooth pas­sage of the bill in the com­ing win­ter ses­sion.

Dur­ing the dis­cus­sion, the group strongly urged the PSC to com­pre­hen­sively ad­dress safety of chil­dren dur­ing com­mute. Ashim Sanyal, COO, Con­sumer Voice, said, “In its re­port to the Par­lia­ment, PSC should rec­om­mend in­clu­sion of manda­tory use of child re­straint sys­tems in line with recog­nised safety stan­dards, as well as pro­vi­sions to en­sure ap­pro­pri­ate head­gears for chil­dren un­der four years of age on two-wheel­ers, in or­der to pro­tect mil­lions of chil­dren who use the roads ev­ery day in In­dia.”
