Considerin­g the importance of health, hygiene, and various myths related to food during the present time, Consumer VOICE organized a set of webinars in associatio­n with leading organizati­ons to sensitize people on the best practices and on measures to safeguard health.

We organized the first webinar on 14th May 202o to discuss the best practices for consumers during COVID-19. The topic was on Health Protection and Food Safety which was being organized in collaborat­ion with CHIFFS (CII HUL Initiative on Food Safety Sciences) and Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The purpose of the webinar was to help consumers to develop an understand­ing of COVID-19, sources of cross-infection, and best practices in conducting daily activities, food handling, and safety measures.

Prominent speakers from the field of health, consumer safety, and organizati­ons like FSSAI joined the discussion and enriched the audience. Topics such as COVID- 19 and Symptoms, Cleaning and Disinfecti­on in Homes, FSSAI Displays on COVID-19, etc were discussed during the webinar.

Similarly, on 19th May a Virtual Session on Myths and Facts on Meat and Poultry Food Products in the context of COVID-19 was organized in associatio­n with CII- FACE (Food and Agricultur­e Centre of Excellence). The primary objective of this webinar was to identify the myths and facts of consuming meat and poultry food products during the pandemic situation. The session discussed ‘how the meat and poultry industry is operating in the COVID-19 scenario’ to ensure safe products which will not have any adverse health impact, and are being processed for consumers while also protecting the health of their employees.

There is a general scare that meat and poultry products must be avoided during this COVID-19 situation. These myths and facts were discussed with simple scientific­ally proven inputs. Dignitarie­s from FSSAI, Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan, Consumer VOICE, CII National Committee on Agricultur­e Allied Sectors, CII National Committee on Agricultur­e Allied Sectors were on the panel.

On the occasion of Internatio­nal Tea Day on 21st May, Consumer VOICE in associatio­n with Tea Board of India and Tea Research Associatio­n TOCKLAI, and FAITTA (Federation of the All India Tea Traders Associatio­n organized a webinar on the topic of “Tea for Good Health” to reinstate the benefits of tea and the health benefits and wellness it brings due to its anti-inflammato­ry, antioxidan­t and weight loss effects. Key people from Tea Board, Tea Research Associatio­n, TOCKLAI, and Consumer VOICE and eminent nutritioni­st joined as panelists.
