Tanya Ghavri

In the world of fashion stylists, celeb-stylist Tanya Ghavri is pretty much leading the race.

You might not know her name, but you’ve probably seen her work— remember the gorgeous outfits Sonam Kapoor wore in Aisha? Yep, that was Tanya Ghavri’s doing. But while styling is her passion, it wasn’t the original plan. “As a kid, I wanted to be an architect. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to work in fashion, more so in Bollywood, until I was in college. That’s when I got to work with Pernia Qureshi as the Assistant Stylist for Aisha. And I realised this is what I wanted to do.” Today, Tanya has a roster of celeb clients, including Style Superior, Sonam Kapoor. So what’s a typical day in Tanya’s life like? “Very, very hectic, and equally fun,” she says. “A lot of thought goes behind each look. What works for one person won’t work for another, so I have to constantly evolve. When I’m on an assignment, I’m always around because it’s my vision and I have to see it through.” Ask her for her most memorable moment, and pat comes the answer: “I love dressing Sonam—she makes my job interesting. But I’ll always remember the time I styled Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for a cover in March. She is someone I’ve always looked up to, I’ve seen her being crowned Miss World. So that was a dream come true.” Tanya’s plans for 2012 are busy, to say the least. “Right now, I’m styling Kareena Kapoor for all her promotional appearances for Ek Main Aur Ek Tu, as well as Sonam for her Players promos. I’m also styling Asin, Sarah Jane Dias and Amrita Puri for their red carpet appearances, and Jacqueline Fernandes for her upcoming movie later this year.” Tanya pauses for breath. “Yes, it’s going to be a busy year,” she smiles.
