4 We’ve Got the Blues!

-

Rudy and Tipriti of the popular blues rock band, Soulmate, talk to Cosmo about their recent gig with Fox Traveller’s show, Sound Trek, which has artists travelling all over India to collaborate with local musicians.

1 What was it like, shooting for Sound Trek?

Rudy: ‘It was wonderful! In the beginning we were worried about the weather and if we could shoot in the places we had planned to, but it all went off smoothly!”

2 So where exactly did you shoot, then?

Rudy: “We shot in and around Shillong. One doesn’t have to go very far to get away from the hustle of citylife.”

3 And who did you collaborate with?

Rudy: “With four local Khasi folk musicians— Meban, Freddy, Mai and Vincent. We’d never done anything like this before so it was a real thrill, but we also wondered if we could pull it off. We decided to recreate Set Me Free from our second album called Moving On.”

4 What projects are you working on currently?

Rudy: “We are waiting for Shantanu Hudlikar to finish the mix on our new album right now. We’re set to release in the first week of September!”

Tipriti: “Round Midnight by Ledisi; New Moon by Jimmy Herring; and Why You Wanna Mess It All Up? by Rachelle Ferrell. Rudy: “Mountain Climbing by Mountain; a compilation of Blues from Jakarta; the entire Lifeboat album by Jimmy Herring; and a compilation of Muddy Waters’ songs.”
