MATLAB EXPO 2017 puts Spotlight on Simulation
MathWorks’ eighth annual conference, MATLAB EXPO 2017 held in Bangalore where the focus was on the improved capabilities in Matlab and Simulink
MathWorks’ eighth annual conference, MATLAB EXPO 2017 in Bangalore focused on the improved capabilities in Matlab and Simulink as a number of cases hogged spotlight. The cases were discussed to explain the growing importance of simulation using advanced analytics. The MATLAP Expo 2017 brought together scientists, engineers and experts to deliberate on latest industry trends and advancements in MATLAB and Simulink.
In his keynote address, Jim Tung, MathWorks fellow focused on the real cases to highlight the role of simulation to avoid unwanted scenarios that might cost organizations. “If the heavy machinery could be handled using IoT and AI, it can save manufacturing companies millions of dollars otherwise spent on the unexpected damage to parts of the machinery,” said Tung while addressing the gathering.
Today Big Data is used to extract insights, recognize patterns and useful information from business, engineering and scientific data. “Big data is enabling many industries to develop smarter business plans, products and services. A lot has been talked about big data being used for business,
but conversations on analytics enabling engineers of various sectors like automotive, aerospace and defence, electronics and communications are rarely mentioned,” said Tung in a conversation during the event.
The event had a lot of tracks on use cases of Matlab where engineers and scientists from different organizations were present. In another session by TeamIndus, the role of artificial intelligence in exploring the space was manifested. The session caught the attention of the members in the audience who asked a numerous questions from the speaker.
At the core of the discussions was the role of analytics. Using analytics, engineers today can describe and predict a system’s behaviour. They further combine predictive analytics with embedded control systems and sensors to automate actions and decisions based on the patterns, insights and information extracted. “MathWorks helps engineers design their products leveraging MatLab. With platforms MATLAB and Simulink, engineers can create products which are smarter and efficient and are constantly evolving as more and more data is fed into the system,” said Kishore Rao, Managing Director of MathWorks India. “The interest level for MathWorks in India has increased significantly. We are constantly growing and increasing our numbers.”
MATLAB EXPO 2017 featured key industry players including Robert Bosch, Philips, Tata Motors, IFB and others.
