SUMMER SPECIAL City gets integrated challan system

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, APRIL 29

The traffic police finally introduced the long- pending integrated e-challan system on Monday and pressed the new Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) into use. The entire echallan system has also been revamped and photo evidence will now be given to traffic violators on every e-challan copy. The challan copies can also be accessed on the Website of the traffic police. With this, the traffic cops have done away with the manual process of challans.

This is the first time in the country that the traffic police of any city is taking such measures.

The revamped e-challan system was launched by DGP V. Dinesh Reddy along with Hyderbad com- missioner Anurag Sharma and additional commissioner of police (traffic) C.V. Anand.

Paying e-challans has also been made easier. Spot challans can be paid right away through cash or card, which is again a first for any traffic police department in the country. Earlier they could only be paid through MeeSeva and APOnline centres.

Photographic evidence of the violations will also be given to violators since a lot of motorists have complained of being fined wrongly. Though all the challans were booked with photo evidence since 2009, these were not given to the violators.

M. Anand said about 150 PDAs for e-challans have been procured by the traffic police. The PDAs will also have an in-built camera, will accept debit and credit cards and would be connected to the main traffic control centre server. Traffic police has also procured 10 tint meters, 50 new breath analysers, 175 new digital cameras, 350 wheel clamps, 88 UPS systems for CCTV cameras and 100 wireless transmitters.
