Hollywood screenwriting guru Sydfield, said, “I have been a novel and short story writer for quite some time. I am passionate about film-making and giving a social message using human emotions. That is why I have taken up this new project. Deyyam (The Ghost) is one of the short stories I had written and published. Based on it, I have written the script, screenplay and have supervised editing and direction. It is a story about ‘screen addiction’, be it television, computer or smartphones.”

Interestingly, Sunil tells us, “I love films of Alfred Hitchcock and Akira Kurosawa. And, my film has their influence.”

Meanwhile, Sunil had dedicated his romantic adventure novel Sayyata to Steve Jobs.

“Most of my stories are based on human relationships. Though Sayyata is a romantic thriller, it touched upon factionalism, Naxalism and fake babas. The novel had sold more than 1,000 copies. In another novel, Prarambham, have described the friendship between a Brahmin boy and a Dalit boy,” says top cop Sunil.

How does the IPS officer, who heads a big force that protects key installations like the Secretariat, AP Legislative Assembly, dams etc., get time for filmmaking?

“I spend most of my weekends on films. There is absolutely no commercial motive… We are all only working to give out a social message. That is why we are ‘Weekend filmmakers’. My wife, an advocate, and two children are always with me in these endeavours,” says Sunil.
