T-Congress MPs begin fast
Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) leaders put up an impressive show in New Delhi on Monday with a 48-hour dharna demanding immediate introduction of Telangana statehood Bill in the ongoing Parliament Session in an effort to bring pressure on the Central government.
Telangana Congress MPs Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Manda Jagannadham, S. Rajaiah, Ponnam Prabhakar and G. Vivek launched a 48-hour protest fast outside Parlia-ment House demanding Telangana as promised on December 9, 2009.
Opposition leader in Lok Sabha and BJP leader Ms Sushma Swaraj visited the fasting MPs to express her party’s solidarity.
“It should be an eyeopener for the Congress High Command, whose Congress MPs are fasting demanding implementation of the promise they themselves made,” she said. The BJP leader added that never in the history of Parliament have ruling party members resorted to 48-hour fasting in Parliament House.
Ms Swaraj said the Congress High Command had delayed the formation of Telangana under the guise of consultations for the last four years while the BJP has repeatedly promised to support the Telangana Bill if introduced in Parliament.
CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy also visited the fasting MPs at Jantar Mantar to express solidarity.
