G. Satheesh Reddy, 49, will take over as director of the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, on Wednesday. Born into an agricultural family in Mahimalore village in Nellore, he graduated with a B.Tech (ECE) from JNTU Anantapur and an MS in electronics and communication engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad.
He joined Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in July 1986 and has been working at the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) right from its inception.
A leading navigation expert with more than twoand-a-half decades of experience, he will be the youngest director of the missile complex.
He has made significant contributions to the development in critical areas of inertial navigational systems, embedded computers, real time software, and guidance and control tech- nologies along with associated avionics systems.
RCI was established in 1988, and is the brainchild of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It is the premier institute of DRDO and the hub for avionics systems for missiles, aircraft, UAVs, helicopters and other strategic and tactical systems in our country.

He has been working at the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) right from its inception. been conferred many awards including AGNI Award for Excellence in Self Reliance as a Team Leader for the year 2006, DRDO Scientist of the Year Award for the year 2010, Prof. Yashwant Rao Kelkar Yuva Puraskar for making India self-reliant in navigation systems for defence applications among other honours.
