Conman dupes nine women, arrested

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, APRIL 30

A 28-year-old conman cheated nine young women with false promises of matrimony and looted lakhs of rupees from them. M. Vamshi Krishna, the accused, had a simple ploy – he registered on matrimonial sites giving false information about himself. He posed as a member of a high-profile family to impress the victims and to extract money and other favours from them.

City police on Tuesday arrested Vamshi Krishna from his residence at Kalyan Nagar in Borabanda after the cops received a complaint from a victim.

Vamshi Krishna, who was once arrested for extorting money from brothels by posing as a journalist, tried to impress the women by showing them the house of Vijayawada MLA Vallabhaneni Vamshi at Jubilee Hills, which he claimed was his own.

“He also travelled in expensive cars and took the victims to posh hotels for lunches and dinners,” DCP L.K.V. Ranga Rao from the detective department said.

The smooth-talking man would con the women’s families too. “He would visit the victims’ homes and con- vince their family members that his father had gone abroad. He also promised them that as soon as his father returned, he would get married. After impressing them, Vamshi Krishna would extract money and other valuables from the victims,” Mr Ranga Rao said.

In his latest ‘con’, Vamshi Krishan took `6.1 lakh from his victim, who approached the police.

The wily trickster had changed his SIM cards several times. But this time it was ‘game over’.
