Sushma bats for T at TJAC meet

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, APRIL 30

National Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday appealed to the people of Telangana to defeat the Congress in the next elections for its failure to fulfil its promise on Telangana state.

At the same time, she asked them to vote for the BJP and get Telangana within 100 days if the BJP came to power at the Centre. She was speaking at the Jantar Mantar dharna shivir organised by the Telangana JAC on Tuesday. The BJP leader said that it was disgraceful for the government that could not grant a separate state despite an announcement on Mrs Sonia Gandhi’s birthday three years ago. “As a mother, I was moved when hundreds of students from Telangana committed suicide for a separate state,” Ms Sushma said.

BJP vice-president Uma Bharati said that a Telangana would be self sufficient. Swamy Agnivesh, BJP MP Smrithi Irani also supported Telangana.

Meanwhile, there were tense movements twice on Tuesday when a few repre- sentatives from the Employees JAC headed by Mr Srinivas Goud went in a procession to 10 Janpath to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi to submit to her, a memorandum seeking a T-state.

By the time they reached there, she had left for the Parliament session. Security personnel around 10 Janpath prevented the activists from moving ahead. After much persuasion Mr Goud was allowed to meet Madhavan, OSD of the UPA chairperson to submit the memorandum.

In the evening too, after concluding the 48-hour dharna, some T-activists from Jantar Mantar rushed towards Parliament, breaking the barricades, but Delhi police prevented them from going ahead.
