Court refuses to monitor CBI SALVE SAYS CBI RESORTING TO DELAYING TACTICS

The AP High Court on Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the court to monitor the CBI investigat­ion into the illegal investment­s case of Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

T. Sriranga Rao, a practicing advocate from the city moved the PIL alleging that that the CBI was resorting to selective arrests of accused in the chargeshee­ts filed so far in the case. He urged the court to monitor the case and direct the CBI not to transfer officers involved in the investigat­ion till the probe was over. He also urged the court direct the state government to supply the informatio­n sought by the CBI for the case.

A Division Bench comprising Justices G. Rohini and P. Naveen Rao dismissed the plea by observing that the petitioner had not placed substantia­l material before it to warrant its interferen­ce in the case and monitor the probe.

The Bench said the court did not find any extraordin­ary circumstan­ces to Arguing on behalf of Nimmagadda Prasad, his counsel Harish Salve said that the CBI was adopting delaying tactics in filing the final chargeshee­t, claiming it is still investigat­ing the case. Mr Salve said it was not a crime for the Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy government to allot 18,000 acres of land for port developmen­t and it had only followed the policy of the previous TD government.

The Supreme Court has reserved its orders on the bail plea by Mr Prasad.

Meanwhile, the CBI petition to cancel the bail of Mr Vijay Sai Reddy, the auditor of Mr Reddy, will come up before the apex court tomorrow. intervene as the CBI was probing the case for more than a year and has so far filed five chargeshee­ts.
