Tulasi Korwar emerged champion at the girls’ singles under-14 singles category of the Aster Minds AP state ranking tennis tournament at the Vishal Tennis Academy in Bolton School, Secunderabad.
Tulasi defeated P. Lasya 8-5 in a closely contested final to clinch the title.
In the girls’ under-10 singles category, Sanjana Sirimalla got the better of Neha Tippabatla 7-6 (9-7) to claim the top honours.
Meanwhile, Harshit Kosa Raju emerged the standout player of the tournament after he clinched both boys’ under-12 and under-14 singles titles.
Harshit, who defeated S. Satvik 7-2 in the boys’ under-14 singles semifinal, got the better of Rahul Chandna 8-6 in a thrilling final. Rahul, who had played some excellent tennis en route to the summit clash, made his intentions clear early on, sending some powerful volleys past Harshit.
But Harshit kept his cool and countered Rahul’s aggressive style of play with some clever shots and timely drop shots.
The contrasting approach by the two players ensured an inter- esting contest, with both Harshit and Rahul getting encouraging glances from their coaches after respective winners.
Ultimately, Harshit found enough in his reserve to overcome Rahul and lay his hands on the trophy.
Unlike the gruelling battle in the under-14 final, Harshit’s road to under-12 singles glory was a cakewalk, or to be precise a walk over after his opponent Anne Akash pulled out of the summit clash.
