Chance to pay homage denied, students move HC

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MAY 2

While many students alleged that C. Mohiuddin’s viva voce was delayed by the Eflu administration, his supervisor Dr Syed Jahangir said that the viva was postponed with his consent. “He was a brilliant student, and he had finished his thesis perfectly. The delay in the viva was because theses are sent for external evaluation, and it was with his consent,” Dr Jahangir said.

In order to avoid protests from students, the police sent the body to the deceased’s native place by air on Thursday morning, soon after the post-mortem was completed.

Following this, a group of

Devotees who came for morning prayers found Mohiuddin hanging from the ceiling of the mosque building he had been living in

Eflu students filed a writ petition in the High Court alleging that the police did not allow them to see the body and pay homage to the deceased on the campus.

Mohiuddin, who had been living in a building belonging to the Zainuddin mosque near the campus for the last few months, was found hanging from the ceiling of the mosque early on Thursday by devotees who came for morning prayers. After being called in, the police immediately shifted the body to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.

Friends say Mohiuddin’s parents are dead. His two brothers and sister received the body at Chennai airport.

Students of Eflu, who have been protesting against police presence on the campus, alleged that the cops sent the body away in a hurry. “The university community has the right to see his body and pay homage to the deceased. The police has sent it to his home town without letting us see him,” a Ph.D. student said, adding that the students have moved the High Court regarding this matter.
