Power situation to improve by Oct.-nov. Power cut

The power situation in the state will improve only after six months (by October-November) when an additional 3,000 MW of power can be added to the grid, said Hiralal Samaria, chairman and managing director of AP Transco.

He said the duration of power cuts has been reduced across AP at present. The power deficit has come down to 40 million units per day from 60 MU till recently, after the Rabi season ended.

Mr Samaria said the department is planning to lift power cuts altogether in the coming months, if the monsoon is good and hydel power generation reaches its optimum level. However, he said they will be forced to reimpose power cuts if the monsoon fails.

Tenders for short-term purchase of 2,000 MW will be finalised soon. Tenders have been finalised for 880 MW out of 2,000 MW planned for medium-term buying. North-South transmission corridor will be booked for 550 MW,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the power situation will improve from October as the grid would get 3,000 MW of extra capacity this year, starting with 800 MW at Krishnapatnam, 600 MW at Bhoopalapalli and 520 MW from Hindujas, who agreed to supply the entire power for their plant at a price fixed by the APERC.
