Sarabjit killers expect

The accused believe murder was act of virtue; feared release of the Indian

- SHAFQAT ALI | DC ISLAMABAD, MAY 3

The killers of Sarabjit Singh, Indian prisoner who died at a Pakistani hospital after being assaulted by the inmates of Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore, think they have secured a place in “jannat” or heavens by eliminating an “evil”.

“We killed him because he was an evil. We have secured a place in jannat by ending him. This way the families of the victims of the bombings ( allegedly carried out by Sarabjit) will also have some peace,” Amer Tambaywala told investigators.

The other killer, Mudassar, said, “We believe that killing Sarabjit was an act of sawab (virtue).”

When the Kot Lakhpat Jail investigation Incharge Chaudhry Rehmat Ali asked them to explain why they had assaulted the Indian, Amer said, “How could Sarabjit get away with such bombings? I am proud of killing him”.

The prisoner died of a cardiac arrest on Thursday after nearly a week in coma following the brutal assault by the two Pakistanis.

Mudassar told the investigators, “We have nothing to lose. We are already on death row. So we decided to avenge the bombings. We suspected the government might release him”.

Amer and Mudassar have been convicted for killing Malik Shaukat in Rawalpindi and a separate murder case has been filed against them for killing Sarabjit. They, however, have not hinted about any support from outside to the attack.
