T doctors oppose seniority revision at OGH Ban on public meetings, rallies till September 10
Telangana doctors at the Osmania General Hospital are using the T-issue to oppose the revision of their seniority status that has been taken up by Health Secretary L.V. Subramanyam.
Acting on a Supreme Court order, the list of doctors who had used shortcuts to enhance their seniority in the cadre is being revised by the state government. However, the doctors are against this as they feel that in doing so most Telangana doctors will not get their due. Members of the OGH Telangana Doctors’ Association gathered from 11 am on Tuesday at the Director of Health and Medical Education’s office demanding that the new superintendent of OGH, Dr Shivram Reddy, be removed as he is from the Seemandhra region. They also demanded that there be no revision in seniority.
According to sources, the T-doctors were upset because of the revised seniority of deputy civil surgeons. The revised system will demote a section of senior doctors who have been looking forward to lucrative positions in hospitals and colleges.
A senior officer in the department of director of health and medical education explained, “If the revision is carried out, a section of them will go into the seniority list of 2011 which is not acceptable to them. The doctors might be from any region but wrong methods have been used to enhance their seniority and now the government wants to correct it. The T-issue is being used by the doctors to stall this process which makes it very difficult for us to act against them.”
The state wanted to revise the seniority of a section of government doctors but before the process could begin, the agitation started.
The doctors, however, will not be able to go on strike as their services fall under the Emergency Services Act.
The gates of the Vaidya Vidhyan Parishad on Tuesday were manned by the police and paramilitary forces and entry and exist was restricted due to the agitation staged at the premises. Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma has extended the ban on public meetings and rallies till September 10.
Without prior permission no meeting or procession will be allowed and carrying arms, sticks and offensive weapons is also prohibited.
Gatherings of people on public roads and public places that disturb peace and order are also banned
The ban order is in effect for the Secretariat premises, including Burgula Rama Krishna Rao building, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation building, Commissioner of Fisheries building, Mint Compound, Nizam’s College and its surroundings, AP Legislative Assembly premises and surrounding roads, Public Garden, Nam-pally, Upper Tank Bund, IMAX, Rotary and NTR Marg and also the flyover road leading from Secretariat to Visweswa-rayya statue, Khairata-bad.
The use of microphones and public address system is also banned. Around 14 companies of Central Paramilitary Forces have been deployed in the city and the Cyberabad police limits.
CRPF Southern Sector IG N.R.K. Reddy said, “We have no fresh request for new companies from the state police. Around 11 companies including three RAF, seven BSF and one CISF have been deployed in Hyderabad and three BSF companies in Cyberabad.”
