Trainers ignore fitness level before enrolling

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, SEPT. 3

City gym instructors often fail to assess the fitness level of their clients, complain health experts.

The right fitness level means exercises done without too much of strain, pain and heavy breathing. These require simple tests for one minute each on the treadmill, stepper and light aerobics which gives the trainer an insight into the body type of the individual.

Farzan Merchant of Jukadoo explained, “Each body type is different and requires a different pace. The body can’t take heavy exercises at the beginning or for a period of 20 days. That is the wrong way to look at it. Exercise also requires to be clubbed with right foods which are different for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. All these aspects go into assessing one’s body type and the schedule of heavy and light exercises.”

This, however, is hardly followed in the industry where most gym instructors download exercise and diet regimes from the Internet and then experiment the same on gullible clients.

Given the number of accidents that have been occurring over the years, renowned and certified instructors feel that clients must be careful while choosing a trainer.

While 95 per cent of instructors put the clients straight on machines and strict regimes without making any inquiries about their medical status, it is important for clients to be aware of what is best for them by spacing out exercises over a period of time.
