Shruti is out and Tamannaah wins
Fresh details emerge in ongoing legal battle between actress and city production house
With a criminal case filed against her, Shruti Haasan is paying the price for arrogance. After conveying her decision to opt out of PVP’s film, her manager apparently taunted the production house with: “Do whatever you want, go ahead.”
“If she had signed a contract for a Hindi film, would she have acted like this? When it comes to Telugu cinema, they treat the contract as toilet paper. We are a corporate organisation and we will now act according to corporate rules,” says producer Potluri V. Prasad.
PVP adds that they have now signed on Tamannaah for Shruti’s role and the shoot will start from April 7. “We had to re-schedule everything because of Shruti. We approached Tamannaah and she agreed to do the film. Now, we will start shooting with her,” he says.
Before approaching the court, PVP had also com- plained to the Telugu Producers’ Council and Tamil Producers’ Council. “But the organisations will take more time. We are working as a corporate and expect people to comply with the contracts. That’s the reason we approached the court,” says PVP.
Sources claim that Shruti had assumed that the production house would not approach the courts against her. This, they say, will serve as a lesson for actors, especially non-Telugus, who opt out of Telugu films for unknown reasons.
Murali Mohan, president of Movie Artistes’ Association, meanwhile says that he has spoken to Shruti. “We asked her to send an official request by Saturday evening. We will discuss with the producers’ council and decide on a future course of action.”
