Pound AWAY pounds
MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR WORKOUT POUNDING AWAY KILOS WITH THIS SIMPLE SQUAT AND LUNGE- CENTRIC ROUTINE
A workout for the fashionable and fit, Pound fitness was started by Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom who were both music enthusiasts and drummers. These two Pound founders brought a bit of fun into the fitness routine fusing cardio interval training with drumming to provide a challenging and heart-pumping workout.
It is a total body workout that brings together cardio, pilates, isometric movements, plyometric and isometric poses into a 45-minute series. You could burn between 400 to 900 calories in a 45-minute session.
This workout is done using Ripstix which look exactly like the drumsticks. These drumsticks aren't just for show; at one-fourth pound per stick and a little shorter than the standard length, they're perfectly designed to maximise your arm workout. You will pound your Ripstix more than you will ever realise — about 15,000 repetitions per class!
Pound is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and isometric poses into a 45minute series.
O.H. PELVIC THRUST
This movement incorporates a basic pelvic bridge. The move begins with the Ripstix above one’s head with elbows close to the ears. As the arms are brought back to the ground in line with the hip, extend your hip upwards to form a bridge with your pelvis, activating your lower back muscles and glutes.
LUNGE POSITION WITH RAINBOWS
After assuming a basic lunge position, strike over to either side of your body after a tap in the middle over your head. This movement works on the quadriceps and incorporates balance and sta
bility. STEPS The exercises aren’t defined with any specific steps. Since it’s a high intensity full body workout, one can do many variations with the basic pound moves.
SET POSITION WITH RAINBOWS
Touch down the Ripstix on either side of your body in a wide stance squat position, while letting your obliques guide you through the movement, effectively activating your inner thigh and core muscles.
KIT POSITION WITH BASS KICK
Here is where elements of pilates are infused into the workout. Assuming a seated position with neutral spine, curve your body to a letter C. While lifting your leg off the floor, tap the Ripstix onto the ground in each repetition. This movement is excellent to work on the core and abs.
