Fire scare on India U-23 squad bus

New Delhi: The India U-23 football squad survived a fire scare here on Monday when smoke spewed from the rear of the bus carrying the players from a training session. The 30-member contingent, who are here for the AFC Championship qualifiers, immediately vacated the bus. They were left stranded on the street for some time and were eventually taken to the team hotel by the police escort. The players were on their way back to the team hotel after a morning recovery session when everyone noticed a burning smell inside the bus. Smoke was also spotted from the rear. Bangladesh Football Federation general secretary Mohd Abu Nayeem Sohag later met head coach Savio Medeira and enquired about the incident. India face Bangladesh in their group encounter on Tuesday.
