Juggling fashion and studies

If you think you have a good fashion sense, you should start a blog, as many students from the city are doing successfully

- SANCHITA DASH

You get dressed for a party, your outfit is appreciated by many, a photograph finds its way to Facebook and the comments start pouring in. And one of them reads, “You should start a fashion blog.” How many times have you read that and dismissed it?

Well, college students in the city are taking these compliments seriously and are starting their own fashion blogs.

Drishti Kushwaha, a final-year student at NIFT thought about the idea of a blog eight months ago, when she realised that people in the city “don’t quite have the style quotient”. That’s when she thought of starting her street style blog called

Trendystarlets. “Everyone has money here, but their taste is not up to the mark. I wanted to show that you can put together stuff from your existing wardrobe. That’s why my blog is more about affordable street style in Hyderabad,” she says.

She even started getting queries. “People would write back to me asking how they can style a certain outfit or how they can improve their wardrobe.”

Putting together a look for summer, Drishti says, “Take a nice summery floral print top and team it up with a pair of denims. You can always invest in a good pair of denims as they last long. Just add a satchel that is nowadays easily available at `500 or `600.”

For many others it also helps build their portfolios. “Last year, I was going through an online website where you can put together different looks. That’s when I thought, why not start a blog of my own?” says Rishan Skhem Shabong, a third-year student of fashion designing at NIFT. He adds, “I have over 1,900 followers as my blog is linked to all of my social media accounts. This adds to my portfolio and even my mentors in college are appreciating it.”

Meenakshi Pamnani, a blogger who is in her finalyear in St. Francis college, says it’s not difficult to juggle studies and her blog. “Yes, there are a lot of assignments that I have to look into, but you always find time for what you love,” she says. Meenakshi is one of the popular bloggers in the city, who also has many brand collaborations in just four months. “I have about 12-14 brands that reached out to me to showcase their products. They sent me phone covers, bags, accessories and more,” says Meenakshi, who is just about to turn 20 and is the youngest fashion blogger in the city.
