C. Aadhya, G. Chaitanya Kumar and E. Nithin were the fleetest of foot, winning the marquee 100 metres race at the annual sub-junior athletics meet organised by the Ranga Reddy District Athletics Associatio­n at the Saroornaga­r Athletics Stadium in Hyderabad.

Aadhya — representi­ng the Vidyaranya School — won the gold medal in the girls under-14 category while Ramadevi School’s Chaitanya ruled the roost in the boys under-14 event. Nithin, meanwhile, was the first over the finish line in the boys under-12 competitio­n.

The Hayathnaga­r School student clocked 12.54 seconds to take home the top prize. Vidyaniket­han School’s V. Sai Tharun was 0.21 seconds slower than Nithin, and had to settle for the silver medal. K. Vijay Chouhan of ATRHS was a further 0.14 seconds slower, and bagged the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, in the girls under14 category, Aadhya clocked an impressive 14.02 seconds, a full second quicker than B. Sirisha of Rainbow School.

D. Vaishnavi, who studies at the Ramadevi School, clinched the bronze medal with a timing of 15.35 seconds.

Chaitanya was off the blocks like a bullet, and crossed the finish line in 12.73 seconds. K. Anil Chouhan of the ZPHS clocked 13.37 seconds for the silver medal while Arjun Kumar, representi­ng Gayatri Grammar High School, was 0.22 seconds slower than Anil, and finished third in the race.

Another impressive athlete was the young Sk Tasleema. The Telangana Sports School product clocked 13.35 seconds to take the top honours in the girls under-10 80 metres race. She then snared a silver in the 200 metres event, finishing 1.34 seconds behind Narayana School’s D. Harshita (34 seconds).
