Butterflies at Sanjeevaiah park

The 92-acre Sanjeevaiah Park on Necklace Road will accommodate five theme parks including the Nakshatra Vanam Park, Butterfly Park and a bamboo enclosure. The garden already has a rose garden and other enclosures. The different parks will be developed in around 20 acres of land.

The project is being funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency as part of the Hussain Sagar cleaning project. HMDA Urban Forestry director S. Srinivas said, “Every nakshatra has a symbolic tree or plant that defines its connection with nature. It will be worthwhile for citizens to know which tree belongs to their janma nakshatram (birth star). Meanwhile, the butterfly park will have various species of butterflies found in Hyderabad and other places with perennial flowering plants. The Bambusetum enclosure will have 50 species of bamboos brought from Kerala and Kolkata.”

There will be no separate entry fee for these theme parks. However, one has to purchase the entry ticket for Sanjeevaiah Pa- rk. “These enclosures will be completed by end of March 2016. The trees for the Nakshatra Vanam are mostly being sourced from the HMDA urban forestry wings while some varieties were brought from northeastern states of India,” added the director.

Earlier, the 20-acre land was being used as a temporary dumping yard for silt and other solid material removed from Banjara and Balkapur nalas. In 2014, the HMDA’s Buddha Purnima Wing had desilted the two nalas and dumped the silt at the Park before shifting it to the Gajularamaram dump yard.
