A cook who was allegedly attacked by employees of a wine shop in Nacharam two days ago, succumbed on Thursday, police said.

The cook, Yadagiri, 55, had an argument with the wine shop staff when they refused to serve him more liquor.

In the scuffle that followed Yadagiri fell down and suffered injuries.

Police said that Yadagiri, a resident of Nacharam, was a professional cook who used to cook during marriages and other func- tions in the Nacharam area and was addicted to alcohol.

On Monday night he came to Sri Sai Ram Wines in Nacharam and drank alcohol.

After becoming fully drunk he ordered more alcohol which the staff refused as they gad run out of stock.

Yadagiri picked up an argument with the staff of the wine shop and started abusing them.

Hearing this they came out of the counter and the argument became a scuffle. “During the scuffle he was pushed by one of the staffers and he fell down. As he was heavily drunk he became unconscious,” said inspector N. Pravinder Rao.

Yadagiri was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he recovered.

“But in the wee hours of Thursday he succumbed. There are no external injuries on his body. We are awaiting the PME report to know the reason for the death,” the inspector said.

Based on a complaint from his son Raj Kumar, a murder case was registered and the body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
