Kayakathon in city

-

With the mercury rising, Hyderabad’s denizens now have a chance to cool off at the Hussainsagar lake this Sunday, by taking part in the second edition of the Hyderabad Kayakathon.

The event, a joint endeavour of Telangana Tourism and the Yacht Club of Hyderabad, will kick-off at 7 am and will go on till noon. It comprises four championships, one each in the men’s, women’s, kids and family categories.

The Kayakathon is Hyderabad’s first water-based endurance test, and has been planned on the lines of the marathon and 10K run.

While the on-road activities exercise the lower body, the Kayakathon tests upper-body endurance and fitness.

It is the largest water-based event in Hyderabad apart from the annual Monsoon Regatta which is conducted by the YCH in July.

This time, the final in the open category will start at the Yacht Club. The course will take the participants towards and around the Buddha Statue, and back to YCH.

“The Hyderabad Kayakathon is attracting a larger participation compared to last year, and is now a huge event that the water sports enthusiasts in the twin cities can look forward to,” said Suheim Sheikh. president of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

Also new this year is the Family Championship wherein kids will be accompanied by their parents on the same kayak, and will race other families in a bid to win the trophy.

The event is open to participants in all age groups, and will have special prizes for kids, allwoman teams as well as familybased entries.
