A portion of the cement plaster on the ceiling in the corridor of the surgical ward of Osmania General Hospital fell at 12 noon on Monday creating panic among patients and attendants.

The ward is situated on the first floor of the in-patient old block. The para-medical staff, junior doctors and attendants were shocked to see the huge portion falling down.

A senior doctor on condition of anonymity said, “This is the first big portion of the plaster that fell down this year. It shows that the building requires basic repairs. The allotted budgets and hospital funds are not being used to maintain the building.”

It was sheer luck that there was no attendant of patients in the corridor when the plaster fell down. There was also no patient being wheeled in or out of the room at the time.

Interestingly, Medical Council of India team was inspecting the hospital premises for its infrastructure and the senior doctors were busy with them. Superintendent, Dr G Murthy has said that they are looking into the repairs of the building.
