- DC CORRESPONDENT

Pilgrims planning to visit the hill shrine of Sabarimala will soon be able to avail many services online before the start of the pilgrim season from November 15.

They can submit offerings, book rooms in advance and check for their availability on the website which can now be accessed by pilgrims in six languages — Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English.

A virtual queue, a free web-based service that enables pilgrims to reserve their place in the special queue at a specified hour on any day when the shrine is open, on a ‘first come first serve basis’, is one of the services that is being made available online. The Travancore Devaswom Board has entrusted T hi ru van ant ha pu ram based Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) with the task of developing the website incorporating available services exclusively for Sabarimala as part of a modernisation drive covering its administrative offices and main temples.

“We have asked C-DIT to complete the work before the pilgrimage season starts,” said Biju S.B., head, Web Services and Streaming Services. The contract was awarded to C-DIT for `5.5 lakh and is aimed at facilitating pilgrims, especially those from neighbouring states. “All information, including the queue position and timing of temple will be intimated through the website,” a senior official said.
