- SURESH KAVIRAYANI

Nandini Nursing Home marks the debut of Nawin Vijay Krishna, grandson of yesteryear actress, Vijaya Nirmala and son of senior actor, Naresh. The young actor has the backing of legendary actor Krishna’s family, so this film has generated interest among the trade circles.

THE STORY

Chandu (Nawin Vijay Krishna) applies for a job in the administrative section of Nandini Nursing Home. He mistakenly gets selected for a doctor’s post, but he continues to work as an assistant to a senior doctor, Murthy (J.P.). Chandu also gets help from his friend Naidu (Shakalaka Shankar), who also works in the same nursing home as a compounder. After a few untoward incidents occur in the nursing home, its reputation is spoiled.

Nursing home MD Nandini (Nithya) falls in love with Chandu, but he doesn’t show any interest in her as he once faced heartbreak with another girl, Amulya (Shravya). Meanwhile, a few people die in the nursing home under mysterious circumstances and people start believing that there is a ghost at work. Who is behind the deaths, the strange incidents and what the mystery is forms

the crux of the story.

DIRECTION

P.V. Giri makes his debut as director and to everyone’s surprise, handles the subject in a neat manner. Though it’s not a new theme, the director successfully narrates it in a new way. He also cleverly mixes comedy into the story, which works out well. Though the Saptagiri-Vennela Kishore episodes drag on, they provide much needed entertainment. The way he reveals the twist in the second half and maintains the suspense and tempo till the end is good.

PERFORMANCES

Nawin Vijay Krishna surprises everyone with his subtlety. His performance is decent and his biggest asset is his voice. He delivers his dialogues and showcases his skills well, the choice of film working well for him.

Shakalaka Shankar, the comedian, has a lengthy role in this film and carries it in an entertaining manner. He provides laughs with his comic sense and accent. Another comedian, Saptagiri also shines in a comedy track.

The Vennela Kishore scenes are hilarious where the comedian acts like a coma patient. Of the two female leads, Nithya has the better role and has done a decent job. Her histrionics, especially in the second half, create interest. Shravya is also impressive in her role where she wants to save money.

MUSIC AND CINEMATOGRAPHY

Achu’s music, especially the background score, has come out nicely. The songs are refreshing and choreographed in a neat manner. The dialogues are impressive and perfectly suit the scenes. The cinematography is also an added advantage for the film.

VERDICT

There are a few drawbacks, especially when the actors’ expressions are overdone for the comedy track. But overall, the makers neither went overboard nor created hype for this film, and Nawin Krishna makes an impressive debut. Good dose of comedy with a suspense quotient, you can definitely watch this film once.

Great performances from the cast make this film worth a watch at least once
