No takers for most rain-hit dwellings

-

MANY OF THE houses and flats were badly affected by the heavy rains in September. Some of them remained inundated for almost a week and GHMC officials and police had to vacate some of the families to safer areas.

Tthe number of “To let” and “For sale” signs has gone up in places like Bandari Layout and Datrinagar in Kukatpally and Brahmanawadi in Begumpet that were inundated during the recent rains. GHMC officials along with the police had to vacate a few families.

At Bandari Layout, apartments along road numbers 8, 9 and 10 were under water for about a week. Officials had moved families in Datrinagar on boats and provided food and rescue operations. A few houses at Brahmanawadi and Mayuri Marg in Begumpet were also inundated. It took about 15 days for the situation to normalise.

Now, most owners of independent houses and flats are planning to sell and relocate to other localities. Real estate websites are flooded with ads for the same.

Mr G.M. Kishore, a realtor from Kukatpally, said that although buyers were visiting the properties at Bandari Layout and bargaining, they back out at the last moment. “About 15 new apartment houses are being built here but there is little hope of selling all the flats at the present market value. Some flat owners are bargaining to sell even at a ‘no loss and no gain’ basis,” he said.
