City team raids Odisha, WB

Income-tax officials under the supervisio­n of director-general of income-tax (Hyderabad) have conducted raids on two people in Bhubaneswa­r and Kolkata and seized `29.5 lakh in Balasore of Odisha.

According to official sources, special teams conducted raids on the properties of Balasoreba­sed businessma­n Manorajnaj Das. The teams have seized `29.5 lakh cash. Of this, `17 lakh was in the new `2,000 notes.

Other officials have conducted raids at different locations on the houses and offices of Kolkata-based mining contractor Sirajuddin.

Raids are still on at the premises of the mining contractor in Kolkata.

“Operation is being continued in Bhubaneswa­r and Kolkata on Sirajuddin & Co. He is a mining contractor-cumexporte­r. Based on credible informatio­n, our teams conducted raids and seized key documents from his offices,” the official said.

Another official said, “They are focusing on bullion traders and gold jewellers in Hyderabad, Vizag, Vijayawada and Nellore. We are also focusing on those who have deposited more than `1 crore in old notes. We have identified as many as 5,000 customers in such category in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.”

Jewellers have reportedly tried to route either their or somebody else’s black money through advance cash receipts.
