Babus must e-file assets returns

-

The Central government has asked IAS and IPS officers to file their Immovable Property Returns (IPR) from January 1, 2017, only in the electronic form.

Currently, the officials submit their IPRs to the state government in physical form, which will be submitted to the Central government later.

However, the Central government had noticed several discrepancies in this method.

In an attempt to prevent this, the Centre has asked officials to upload their e-returns directly.

The Centre's Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has written to Chief Secretaries of all states to ensure that IPRs are filed by IAS/ IPS officers from January 1, 2017 in online format.

“Since 2011, the IPRs are being uploaded by the state governments after the officers submit them in manual mode. However, it has been noted that due to this method, certain problems are cropping up like IPRs getting lost in transition, state governments failing to submit to DoPT even after receiving them from officers, ante-dating of IPR etc. The date of submission of IPR has assumed further significance due to denial of Vigilance Clearance in case of late submission,” noted DoPT in its letter to all state governments.

he DoPT expressed displeasure over some IAS officers not filing IPRs for the past two-three years and asked chief secretaries to ensure 100 per cent compliance.

Despite the DoPT extending the deadline thrice this year to file IPRs, dozens of officers in both Telugu states failed to submit the same so far.

The DoPT had extended the deadline to January 31, 2017, following the introduction of new online method.
