Irfan, Shiv and Sachin for men while Sneha and Trittymol for women played well
Defending champions Hyderabad District retained their positions in both the men and women sections in the 3rd Telangana State Inter-District Basketball Championship asserting their superiority in no uncertain terms as they made short work of Karimnagar for the men's title while the women routed Ranga Reddy District. Hyderabd men won 85-63 while their women triumphed 32-18 Hyderabad women brooked no response from the hapless Ranga Reddy team as they ran up a commanding 14-0 lead at the start of the match. Aishwarya Nataraj and Suganya had Kiran Prajapati on the ball through fast breaks while Trittymol and Ramya excelled in their accurate shooting as the hapless Ranga Reddy team, which had earlier dished out a superb performance against Medak in the semi final, never had any chance to make it to close range with the marauding defence all over them.
The dominance of the winners continued with Manasa, Sneha and Veda Yukta coming off as substitutes did a commendable job. For the loser, the consistent Tejasri and Rachana played well
The men's final saw Karimnagar District make a comeback midway through the game with Sumit Samrat, Mallaiah and Sai Kumar along with Arun Teja displaying excellent teamwork and determination. After Hyderabad got off to a solid start with Mohd Irfan starting with a couple of three pointers, Sachin scoring from under baskets and David Boon and Chris Viresh getting their shots from long range. With Muthu Kumar garnering the rebounds, Hyderabad ran up a 16 point lead before the Karimnagar fightback came about. Sai Kumar and Arun Teja got into the scoring act with Mallaiah collecting the defensive rebounds and setting up fast break situations for them. Shiv Kumar who was inducted into the game at this juncture brought about a change in the Hyderabad attack and with David Boon, Aman Mahmood and Rohan Panicker coming good with their shots, Hyderabad stretched the lead to emerge easy winners and outclasds their opponents at the end of regulation time. Earlier in the semi final, Hyderabad overpowered Warangal district and Karimnagar’s brilliant performance stunned the hosts Ranga Reddy district.
