Motorists hit by road cable works

Motorists plying through Sultan Bazaar and shopkeepers are having a tough time as the narrow roads here have been dug up on both sides for laying down of electrical cables and have not being relaid properly.

The road was divided into two parts after the installation of metro piers; moreover, roads have been dug up on each side to lay underground electric cables.

“The work seems to have been completed partially, but the re-laying of roads is pending for the past one month,” said Mr Hanumanta Rao, a textile shop owner.

“The main issue with the authorities is they do not do the project in a phased manner. They should carry the developmental works, but in a sequential manner to avoid troubles,” he added.

Subhash Singh, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation superintendent engineer, said, “We have been informed about the ongoing electrical works, however, if these works are finished, we will review its condition and re-carpet the stretch, if required.”

Mr Rajesh Jain, a pawn broker, said, “We have been dealing with blow after blow, initially due to the metro rail works, the business was hit; then came demonetisation, and now it is the roads which have not been re-laid after laying electric cables. Customers are unable to park their vehicles even in front of our shops, with lot of difficulties, we are managing the situation.”

The traffic during peak hours is too heavy and the motorists find it very difficult to overtake, because the roadsides are filled with small gravels to medium boulders, which makes the situation tricky.
