Complaint against Air Live for noise pollution

- COREENA SUARES I DC HYDERABAD, JAN. 20

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has received another complaint against restaurantcum-pub, Air Live.

Architect and resident of Road No. 19, Jubilee Hills, in his complaint said the pub was operating from an illegal structure on the fifth floor of a building and plays loud music till 3 am on weekends and 2 am on other days.

Mr Jamal Darvish, the complainant, alleged that Air Live was operating from “a structure that has been built on the terrace of the building. It is also in the close vicinity of a mosque. The pub is causing hardships to residents of Road No. 19.”

He said that the National Green Tribunal had recently directed authorities in Delhi to ensure strict adherence to guidelines on noise pollution because noise is more than just a nuisance as it can produce serious psychological stress. The police must ensure that noise levels are at prescribed levels.

When the issue was referred to the GHMC commissioner, Dr B. Janardhan Reddy, he said, “The issue is an internal departmental problem. The GHMC approves building permission and trade licence, while the excise department gives the liquor licence. GHMC can only act in case of building violation like additional illegal construction or if the construction has deviated from the sanctioned plan. The concerned zonal police can act on the noise complaints.”

West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police A. Venkateshwar Rao who has not received the complaint as yet said, “The police makes rounds to every pub to ensure they are closed before 1 am. I will inform my staff to attend to this issue.”

The GHMC over the past week has issued ‘red notices’ to two establishments — Autumn Leaf and Playboy Beer Garden — for causing sound pollution.
