- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD JAN 20

Two workers died after they accidentally fell in a septic tank in a plastic manufacturing unit in Jeedimetla on Thursday. The victims were identified as Ajay Singh, 23, and his uncle Vijay Singh, 30, both hailing from West Bengal.

Police registered a case against the management for causing death through negligence.

According to police, Excel Oversacks, a company located in Jeedimetla Industrial Area, manufactures polythene covers and has around 200 employees working for it.

The company has provided quarters to its employees who belong to other states.

On Friday morning, Ajay Singh was near the common bath area located beside the accommodation.

While brushing his teeth, he was standing on the slab covering the septic tank.

“The slab could not hold his weight and broke. Ajay fell into the tank. His uncle Vijay who was near Ajay saw him falling into the tank and jumped in to rescue him. While more sections of the slab continued to collapse and fall into the tank, the duo got suffocated inside due to the poisonous gases released,” Jeedimetla sub inspector V. Saidi Reddy said.

Police registered a case against the company management.

Police found that the tank was constructed more than 15 years back and was in a dilapidated condition. It was not being maintained properly, which could have been the cause of Friday’s incident.

Police officials said that they will question the company authorities for more details.

The bodies of the two victims were handed over to their relatives after postmortem. The case is being investigated.
