Boy dies of electric shock, Discom to pay damages

-

Syed Omer Raza, the 11year-old boy of Hashimabad in Bandlaguda who suffered 85 per cent burns on January 20, died on Thursday night at the Osmania General Hospital (OGH).

TSSPDCL south zone assistant director J. Dasarath said, “The boy died as he came into contact with 33 KV cables. 33 KV lines go from the main substation to the 11 KV feeder and from there to the transformer. 11 KV wires go from the transformer to houses and are again stepped down to 220 KV and 110 KV."

“After a thorough investigation we gave compensation to the boy's family. Our department is also saddened by his death. Although it was the child’s fault we still considered the case on humanitarian grounds and requested the department to pay compensation, and also to shift the 33 KV lines. If the residents of that locality cooperate with us work will be speeded up,” the assistant director said.

“The residents of Hashimabad have to be very careful as HT electrical lines are passing very closely to their houses,” Mr Dasarath added.

Mr Ismail, the brother of the deceased said, “We lost our brother, and it's a tragedy for us. He went for evening prayers on January 20 and this incident happened then. From that time we were praying for his recovery but he couldn’t be saved.” The house of the sales manager of a pharma company was burgled in Chaitanyapuri on Thursday night. Mr B.V.J. Srinivas, working for Sisco Research Laboratories, his wife and kids and his brother-in-law P.V. Subba Rao and his family, had gone to Mahanandi on Thursday.

In the evening, Subba Rao and his wife P. Annapurna returned to Hyderabad. Subba Rao, who had parked his bike at Srinivas’s house on Thursday morning, came to the house and found the maid crying.

“I found the main lock broken,” Subba Rao said. Mr Srinivas said that 10 days ago, they had conducted the cradle ceremony of son Sribhargav, and the jewellery received as gifts, and his wife’s gold weighing around 25 tolas and silver weighing around 2 kg were kept in the house.
