Trucker booked in Bowenpally mishap

- DC CORRESPONDENT

A day after the road mishap at Bowenpally in which two students were killed, police found that the bike’s driver, K. Akhil, was riding without a driving license. The Yamaha FZ bike belongs to his cousin, who had given it to him to go to college. The families of Anirudh and Vishwa Chary are in shock.

Relatives said their parents were not aware that the duo had gone to college on a bike.

Ironically, the police case filed after the mishap charged the truck driver although the CCTV footage clearly shows that it was the negligence of the bike driver that caused the accident.

The police accepted a complaint from Akhil, who was injured in the accident, and filed an FIR in keeping with the cops’ “big vehicle syndrome” (the bigger vehicle is always blamed for accidents).

When asked about this, investigation official K. Sathish Reddy said, “We took the complaint from the injured driver as per procedure. After checking CCTV footage we will change the name of the accused in the FIR. In this case, Akhil will be the defendant as his gross negligence caused the mishap.”

Akhil, a resident of SR Nagar, is a degree student of Sri Narayana College. He is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

Two students were killed and Akhil was injured when their bike hit a road divider and the students were thrown under an oncoming truck on the other lane at Bowenpally on Saturday afternoon.

The victims were triple riding and speeding on a Yamaha FZ bike. Eyewitnesses said the rider could not control the bike due to its high speed, and as soon as the bike hit the road divider, the three were flung into the air and fell on the other side of the road.
