‘PURE DEGRADATION OF WOMEN’

PORNOGRAPHY TODAY IS DANGEROUS. IT’S VIOLENT AND EXTREME IN ITS METHODS AND PROVIDES AN UNREAL OUTLOOK TOWARDS SEX. AND WHEN THE YOUNG HAVE FREE ACCESS TO SUCH MATERIAL, ENTIRE SOCIETIES ARE AT STAKE

Millions around the world consume pornography. That doesn’t mean that almost all who subscribe to such videos or images are probable sex attackers. Trouble though, starts when you have 11-year-olds watching these clips. To really understand the problem, here are a few highlights from the works of Gail Dines, author of Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality. Her campaign against an industry “that’s no longer benign”, has made Dines the world’s leading “anti-pornography campaigner”.

“I have found that the earlier men use porn, the more likely they are to have trouble developing intimate relationships with real women. Some of these men prefer porn to sex with an actual human being. They are bewildered, even angry, when real women don’t want or enjoy porn sex,” says Dines

Separate studies back her claim. Surveys say the average age of a consumer who first chances upon porn is now 11.

“The messages that porn disseminates about women can be boiled down to a few essential characteristics: they are always ready for sex and are enthusiastic to do whatever men want, irrespective of how painful, humiliating, or harmful the act is,” writes Dines in her book.

Dines argues that most of the porn today relies on degradation of women. “The women of porn world seem to enjoy having sex with men who express nothing but contempt and hatred for them,” she says. Dines adds that several websites today solely rely on sexual acts that put women in severe discomfort.

“In porn, the man makes hate to the women’s bodies because all the emotions and feelings we associate with love — joy, kindness, happiness — are missing and in their place we see contempt, loathing, disgust and anger,” she writes
