Seven held with old Turkish notes
Hyderabad: The commissioner’s task force, north zone team, arrested seven people while they were trying to sell demonetised Turkish currency worth `26.15 crore. Police said the five suspects came to CTC in Secunderabad with 180 notes of the outdated Turkish currency 1,000,000 Lirasi and 163 notes of 500,000 Lirasi to find buyers. The gang tried to circulate the Turkish Lira notes and coins belonging to the pre-2005 series, which are no longer in circulation as a new series of Lira notes were introduced on January 1, 2009. Police said the two people, P. David Raju, 41, a mason from Prakasham district, and his friend T. Murugesh, 36, a realtor from Krishnagiri, had collected the money and were trying to sell it in Hyderabad.
