Seven held with old Turkish notes

Hyderabad: The commission­er’s task force, north zone team, arrested seven people while they were trying to sell demonetise­d Turkish currency worth `26.15 crore. Police said the five suspects came to CTC in Secunderab­ad with 180 notes of the outdated Turkish currency 1,000,000 Lirasi and 163 notes of 500,000 Lirasi to find buyers. The gang tried to circulate the Turkish Lira notes and coins belonging to the pre-2005 series, which are no longer in circulatio­n as a new series of Lira notes were introduced on January 1, 2009. Police said the two people, P. David Raju, 41, a mason from Prakasham district, and his friend T. Murugesh, 36, a realtor from Krishnagir­i, had collected the money and were trying to sell it in Hyderabad.
