TN MAYHEM

It’s strange that a convicted criminal “appointed” a Chief Minister and he secured a vote of confidence in the Tamil Nadu Assembly after evicting all Members of the Opposition (TN Guv to spill the beans, February 19). In any other country, a convicted person would have quit from all posts. The events in TN makes us think that the Chief Minister should be directly elected by voters.

Phaneendra V. Hyderabad The violent scenes in the Tamil Nadu Assembly do not give a pretty picture. If the behaviour of elected public representatives is so unruly, to whom will commoners look up for guidance? With Sasikala ruling the state from jail and MLAs fighting like rowdies, it seems that only God can save Tamil Nadu. Jyotsna Prasad Hyderabad

PARKING POLICY

The GHMC policy banning the parking of vehicles in front of independent houses and apartments is nothing but closing the stable door after the horses bolted (GHMC may ban parking cars outside houses, February 19). The GHMC should take into account the huge number of old independent houses without parking facilities. S. Vasudevan Secunderabad Although the decision came late, the public is happy with the GHMC Commissioner’s action banning the parking of vehicles in front of independent houses and apartments. This will be a big help for pedestrians as well as motorists. J. Ramakrishna Hyderabad

NATIONALISM

The article Nationalism and

humanity (February 19) deserves appreciation for throwing light on the contemporary socio-political scenario and the greatest truth on earth. Many great thinkers have been advocating human values over nationalism. May God enlighten everyone to come out of national prejudices. Asis Kumar Maiti Hyderabad

MOTHER’S CRUELTY

The report Mom hit son’s head on

wall (February 19) was truly shocking. As a woman I cannot believe that a mother can behave so savagely and kill her son. What has happened to the love of mothers? I request the government to launch campaigns on how to bring up children affectionately. Anunaya Secunderabad

SCRAP `2,000 NOTES

The Centre demonetised high value currency notes to check fake notes. But it is possible to easily duplicate the new `2,000 note. Bangladesh and Pakistan have been printing Indian currency since long (ISI

copies 2K note features, February 19). The government should cancel `2,000 notes and replace them with smaller denomination notes. M. Jeevanand Secunderabad B.
