Mercedes driver kills 17-year-old

-

A 17-year-old boy died after his scooty was hit allegedly by an overspeeding Mercedes car in outer Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area.

The incident occurred around 10.30 pm on Sunday when Atul Arora was on his way home after attending a religious function at an ashram near his home, police said.

The teenager was not wearing a helmet and didn't even have a learner's licence, they said, adding he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The impact of the collision was such that the victim flung in the air and suffered severe head injuries, eyewitnesses told the police.

They claimed that the twowheeler was dragged for about 100 metres by the offending vehicle and its driver fled the spot “not caring to help the victim", police said.

While eyewitnesses claimed the vehicle was a Mercedes car, DCP (Outer) Rishi Pal said police are trying to verify it.

Police, however, said they have recovered some accessories, including the logo and the grill, from the spot, which suggest that the scooty was hit by the highend vehicle.

They are visiting the workshops in the area and questioning their owners to find out if a Mercedes car had come to them for repair.

Police said they have not been able to find out the registration number of the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said they could not note down the number as the vehicle was allegedly over speeding.

Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the driver.

Atul, used to stay with his family, including two sisters, elder to him, in the Paschim Vihar area. He had recently cleared his Class XI exams and Monday was supposed to be his first day in Class XII, police said.

Atul’s father works with the Delhi Development Authority and suffers from partial paralysis. His mother is a teacher.

On Sunday, his family had gone to attend a religious function at an ashram located at nearby Sunder Vihar area.
