HYDERABAD CAPITULATE, OUT OF HAZARE

- DC CORRESPONDENT

After making a promising start to the domestic one-day cricket tournament for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Hyderabad squandered their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals and handed Jharkhand the ticket for the same after losing to Services in their Group ‘D’ match at Kolkata on Monday. Hyderabad’s batting woes continued to haunt the team as they were bundled out for a mere 88 in 28.5 overs after being put in to bat. Though the top batsmen could not contribute much to the team’s total, tail-ender, C. V. Milind took the task in his hands and contributed a handy 32. For Services, Diwesh Pathania was the star of the day as he snared four wickets while Suraj Yadav and Sachinanand took three wickets each. Though the Hyderabad bowlers fought hard to defend the paltry total with Md Siraj picking two wickets, Services got better of them to end Hyderabad’s campaign in a heartbreak. With 16 points and a net runrate of -0.134, Hyderabad finished their journey in the tournament on third spot behind Karnataka (24, +1.439) and Jharkhand (16, +0.609) after registering four successive wins, only to lose the next two matches. Brief scores: Hyderabad 88 in 28.5 overs (C. V. Milind 32, Suraj Yadav 3/36, Diwesh Pathania 4/21, Sachinanand Pandey 3/22) lost to Services 92/5 in 20.2 overs (Gaurav K. 24, Md Siraj 2/31) Points: Services 4, Hyderabad 0. Jammu & Kashmir 184 in 43 overs (Owais Shah 59, Parvez Rasool 45, Shahbaz Nadeem 5/42) lost to Jharkhand 185/4 in 35 overs (Kumar Deobrat 78, Shasheem Rathour 36, Saurabh Tiwary 30, M. S. Dhoni 19 not out).
