First of its kind in the city, students from EThames Degree College have launched an entrepreneurial club to get groomed and discuss start-up ideas
We have all heard stories of how difficult it is to start a new business. While most of the colleges boast of a placement cell, students aren’t trained on how to prepare for starting a business. To change this, five B.Com first year students from EThames Degree College — Himanshu Jain, Chetan Chowdary, Aashish Jain, Prateek Khandelwal and Yogesh Pandya — launched an entrepreneurial club during their recent fest IPSUM 2K17.
At this club, students conduct workshops and discuss their start-up ideas. “Students need to learn about entrepreneurship before they start looking for job opportunities or before they start their own business. At this club, all of us interact with each other and discuss our ideas. We also call successful entrepreneurs to guide the students. If one of us comes up with an interesting idea, we all pitch in our inputs and help. For instance, a team had pitched this idea about starting an app to provide maid and domestic help services by connecting people in the cities to unemployed women in rural areas. We are planning to pitch this idea at August Fest and The Under 25 Summit,” says Himanshu. The students want the start-up culture to be more predominant in Hyderabad. “Almost eight good ideas were discussed at our recent event and we got to learn so much. It was a great experience,” says Chetan, while Aashish adds, “Most of the times, we have good ideas and we do not know how to take them forward. Many of us also have doubts regarding our careers, and this club has been helping us understand how things work when you step outside the college.”
The group also plan to invite students from other colleges to join the club
