FIFA lauds Navi Mumbai venue
New Delhi: A Fifa delegation expressed satisfaction after inspecting the DY Stadium for the U-17 football World Cup, saying it should be regarded as a benchmark for other venues in the country. The delegation, led by Fifa’s head of events Jamie Yarza, is gauging preparatory levels of the six chosen venues for the tournament, to be held from October 6 to 28. “I said last year that I was happy with the stadium and I haven’t changed my mind. It is a fantastic stadium and most of the works which we have requested to be able to host four teams and all the logistical organisational aspects of the World Cup have been completed,” Yarza said. He said some temporary works are yet to be completed at the venue. The Fifa delegation will now head for Guwahati, followed by their final stop at Kolkata.
