ILLITERATE VOTERS IN EDUCATED CLASSES

-

Even the unlettered voter knows who to vote for, and how, be it with the ballot paper earlier or electronic voting machines now. But it was noticed in the recent Legislative Council elections from the graduate and teacher constituencies that thousands of votes were declared invalid because the ballots were not marked correctly. The voters in this elections were graduates and teachers. They could not follow the simple instructions given in the training classes held by the Election Commission. What is worse, many of these educated voters failed to mark their preferences correctly, resulting in some other candidate winning the election.
