PLAYING IT QUITE SAFE

- DR NARAYANA REDDY The writer is a sexologist

QI’m a 26-year-old woman. I’ve a one-year-old boy. My husband and I have planned that we’ll have our second child after three years. We haven’t had sex after my delivery. My menstrual cycle is going fine. My husband is not willing to take precautions to avoid pregnancy. Instead he avoids sex. Please inform me about the safe period for sex after menstruation. The so called “safe period” method is not that safe. Generally ovulation occurs around the 14th day of a regular menstrual cycle. The likelihood of getting pregnant lies centered around this time. Since the exact date of ovulation can’t be prejudged accurately, one week prior to and after the 14th day is avoided. The main problem in this method is to factually establish the time and date of ovulation. Many women may not have a perfect 28-day cycle and this affects the calculations.

QI’m a 19 years old. My problem is the over-erection of my penis. When I think about sex, it gets aroused. Due to this over erection my penis has a bend. Is there any treatment for this problem? Should I go for the hormone replacement therapy? At your age, the spurt in the production of sex hormones in the body is the highest and so the genitals will react even at the slightest stimulation. Getting good penile erections is an indication that your sex hormone levels are adequate. Hence you don’t require Hormone Replacement Therapy. This should be resorted to only when there is a deficiency of the hormones. Most men have some curvature of the penis on erection. If it doesn’t produce pain on erection you needn’t bother.
