Unhappy with your park? Write to GHMC

Civic body makes it mandatory for colony parks to have complaints book

- DC CORRESPONDENT

If the colony or public park you frequent has no facilities or is not well maintained, you can now convey your complaints in the feedback book that has been made mandatory from Wednesday. The book will be kept in the park premises and park users will be able to note down troubles such as poor lighting, lack of benches, greenery, or a walking track and toilets, and anything else.

This feedback book will be checked by the zonal biodiversity wing of the GHMC.

According to officials, the GHMC spends lakhs on the maintenance of each park and wants to know where exactly the money is going if the facilities are missing. There are around 800 colony parks in Greater Hyderabad maintained mainly by the GHMC (70 per cent) and partly by colony residents.

GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said the register will be placed at all parks and gyms and will be personally overseen by circle officials. Funds for the facilities can be utilised from the Zonal level offices.

The GHMC ordered this check after a surprise visit by civic officials to Nehru Park and a gym at Adaiahnagar in Secunderabad revealed broken chairs, unused prefabricated toilets and a badly-maintained park.

Mr Reddy said that since many colony parks are partly maintained by resident welfare associations. But even if they are owned by the GHMC, the RWA can form a walkers’ association and that can be authorised to check the feedback register and inform the GHMC of what is required. “The GHMC seeks the help of civil society to maintain parks and gyms,” he said.
