KARKHANA VICTIMS RECOVERING

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Two days after the road accident at Karkhana, the victims are recovering at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad. When Imrana Begum asked about her husband and children, her relatives had to hide the truth about their death.

"We could not break the news to her or to the recovering child. They would be devastated if they hear the truth. We will wait for a few more days," said the mother of Imrana, Abeda Begum. They have told her that they are being treated at Gandhi Hospital.

The relatives face a dilemma whenever the mother or the child asks to talk to their family members. "The youngest girl saw the truck approaching and screamed just before it mowed them down. The mother and daughter fell a few feet away while the other four were run over by the GHMC truck. Ahzar, the father, had called us after the mishap and asked us to come for rescue. We reached the spot immediately and managed to pull out the people from under the truck with the help of the public," said the distressed mother. She added, “We reached the place before the police did. The bodies were lying on the road for 45 minutes before the police arrived. We strongly feel that everyone could have been saved if the police had arrived early.”

On Thursday night, a drunk driver rammed his GHMC garbage truck, killing four members of Imrana's family, including her husband and three kids, at Karkhana on Thursday night.

The driver was an outsourced employee of GHMC and he was drunk. He lost control over the wheels due to speeding and hit the stationary bike on which the victims were sitting. He was arrested by Karkhana police who also seized his vehicle.
