Dividers add to traffic problems

WITH THE increase in accidents on this stretch from the financial district signal towards Lingampally, Cyberabad traffic police recently installed lane separators keeping in view public safety.

Traffic near the financial district towards Lingampally is coming to a halt, especially during peak hours, as it takes around 15 to 20 minutes due to the newly installed lane separators.

With the increase in accidents on this stretch from the financial district signal towards Lingampally, Cyberabad traffic police recently installed lane separators keeping in view public safety as there are two schools near the University of Hyderabad.

This road needs a big speed breaker as the road has witnessed some fatal accidents in the last few months, but as it's a highway it was difficult to construct speed breakers. As a result, instead of speed breakers the Cyberabad traffic police put up lane separators to prevent accidents.

Motorists and IT professionals working in the financial district complained to Cyberabad traffic police about this and requested them to solve the issue in a different way as traffic congestion is increasing due to the new lane separators. However, Cyberabad traffic police says they will look into the matter, and will try to rectify this issue if it's causing trouble to people driving on this stretch.

After protests by the UoH students union, lane separators were installed on this stretch and rumble strips near the University gate to slow down vehicles. UoH students union held protests against this after a UoH nonteaching staffer met with an accident on this road. It also witnessed a few other accidents.

Sanal Sunder, an IT professional working in the financial district said, “Lane separators are installed on both sides. Due to this, traffic is coming to a halt. When vehicles approach the separators, they slow down as there are bumps. The vehicles behind then come to a halt during peak hours. I complained to Cyberabad traffic police to look for an alternative to unblock traffic.”

Cyberabad traffic DCP A.R. Srinivas said, “After UoH students approached us, we installed lane separators and rumble strips near the University gate to slow down vehicles, but if motorists are facing a problem we will try to look for an alternative.”
